Prescription Acne Treatments Retinoids
When push comes to shove when dealing with your acne
, regular over-the-counter solutions simply wouldnt cut it. Your acne problem wont go away. In some instances, it will only worsen even further.
So, if over-the-counter solutions cant help solve your acne problem, then, you need to use a solution thats a lot stronger. Prescription acne treatments are what you need. An example of these treatments includes retinoids.
Retinoids are derivative of Vitamin A, which is a double-edged sword when it comes to dealing with your acne. It is effective, but it could also cause a host of side effects, which we will discuss later on.
There are a number of retinoids that will help battle your acne problem more effectively. Here are some of them:
1.Tazarotene. As with other retinoids, this one works by helping clear your pores. You see, acne is sometimes caused by clogged pores, either due to the accumulation of dead skin cells in those areas, or the excessive amounts of sebum that your body produces. Using retinoids such as Tazarotene will help you clear your pores more effectively than just washing your face.
2.Adapalene. Aside from clearing up your pores, this type of retinoid also helps reduce the inflammation of your skin due to acne. However, keep in mind that the anti-inflammatory effects arent that dramatic as with other acne solutions. Seeing results when using this may also take time, usually only after 2-3 months of consistent use.
3.Tretinoin. This is a natural form of retinoid, unlike other products that are produced synthetically. However, not many people use this anymore because of the harsher side effects compared to the newer products.
Warning on Side Effects
Just like other stronger solutions against acne, retinoids arent without side effects. In the case of Tazarotene, pregnant women are advised not to use this because tests of this product on animals have caused birth defects. So, if youre seeking an effective
acne solutions, then look for something else. Plus, remember to tell your dermatologist that youre expecting so, he can prescribe a safer medication.
Adapalene, meanwhile, could cause skin irritation, dryness and redness of the skin. Then, because Tretinoin retains the more natural form of a retinoid, its side effects on users are more pronounced. These side effects include sun sensitivity and irritation of the skin.
If you experience the side effects that we have mentioned here, make sure that you consult with your dermatologist. He will, then, likely advise you to reduce the dosage of the solution, until you no longer see these negative effects on your skin.
On a positive note, however, retinoids have also proven to be effective in battling signs of skin aging such as wrinkles and fine lines. So, if you want to hit two birds with one stone, that is, fighting aging and acne, then, using retinoids will be an ideal solution for you.
