These are not self diagnosed but are characterized by some symptoms. An individual can experience continuous swelling of the abdomen for a considerable period of time without any feeling of relief. This can actually mean that there in an enlarged organ or a tumor within the abdomen. It is also possible that there is an increased accumulation of fluid around the organs and lastly it can also be caused by ones excessive weight gain or that condition known as obesity.

There is also a kind of distention that is intermittent or one that comes and goes which is commonly triggered by certain ailments which inhibit a proper digestion and even cause storage of fluid or gas within the digestive system. One should be able to identify whether it is mere bloating or if it is actually distention because this will be the basis of one's treatment upon diagnosis.


The common treatment for people suffering from an increased gas production, constipation or the not so serious digestive illnesses can start from an increase in dietary fiber, herbal cleansing and more effectively a lifestyle change.

In terms of lifestyle change, it is beneficial to keep the diet recorded or written down in a journal on a daily basis. List down the kinds of food that you eat, at what time and how much have you consumed and of course the effect or feeling that you have experienced after consumption of such meal. From there on you can evaluate the results and find out which ones should be eliminated particularly those that have made you feel uncomfortable.

Afterwards, it would be easy to identify your problem area and adjust your eating habits and patterns. You can also start off by including a hefty amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. These foods are truly high in fibers which are beneficial for easing up constipation.


Drink plenty of water. This can help flush out the toxins and harmful elements from the digestive tract and keep the colon with moistened texture that would keep things moving in a normal pattern.

Another thing is to avoid carbonated drinks and dairy products if there is a record of being lactose intolerance for the latter type of diet. If needed be, take everything in a very low or moderate consumption.

Make sure to have an ample amount of exercise particularly one that can be engaged in during the day or even before breakfast. This actually encourages a healthy bowel activity.
