Consumers who use oil fired boilers are being advised to perhaps look to new heating appliances to heat their homes and businesses or if they wish to stick with oil, it is being recommended that they shop around. This stems from the increasingly expensive oil prices and whispers in the media about an oil boiler fuel comparison website which is rumoured to be charging up to 25p more per litre than what is estimated to be the average current price.
Consumers are advised to shop around to achieve the best oil price and like car insurance, not simply stick with the same supplier/company for ease and convenience as they could be saving money by doing otherwise. Steep prices are being asked of consumers and a charge of almost 2000 for delivery is required which is normally included in the price of the oil.
Installers should be advising any users who are off the mains gas grid to look into other forms of heating technology including the more earth friendly renewable varieties such as solar thermal, solar PV or even heat pumps along with their boiler to ensure that the household has a plentiful supply of energy as well as qualifying for the Renewable Heat Incentive in some cases.
Oil companies will argue that using oil as a heating element is staying competitive and assure that prices will decrease back to the levels they were at before due to unpredicted usage of oil over the Christmas period this year.
It has been advised that oil users should fill up their tanks during the summer when the prices are lower, as shown by previous research. Switching to the alternate condensing boiler can save up to an estimated 18% on previous running costs but it must be ensured that the apparatus is regularly monitored and maintained to keep it operating at optimum efficiency level.
