Printing Problem Using Network Computers
If this is the first time you encountered this issue to a network printer
, you have to try these troubleshooting steps:
Make sure you are connected to the network. You can check the status of your network by going to the Network and Sharing Center. Click the Start Button, Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center. The network details provided in this window is helpful if you have connection problems.
Make sure that the printer is turned on and that all the cables are secure. Check the printer if there's any button you need to push to change the printer status to online.
Check how the printer was set up. If it is plugged in to another computer and shared on the network, that computer has to be turned on and must also be connected to the network. If the printer was set up using a TCP/IP address, make sure your computer and the computer where the printer is plugged into is connected to the Internet and to the network. Check if there was a power outage prior to the problem for it can change the TCP/IP address.
Inability to print to a network printer can be a compatibility issue. If you just installed a new version of your Windows or set the printer up for the first time, you might need to install a printer driver that is compatible to the operating system that your computer is running. If the printer that you are using is plugged in to a different computer and shared on the network, the other computer must have a driver installed for your version of operating system.
You can check the version of your operating system by clicking the Start button, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information and then System Summary. From this window, you can check the name of your operating system (Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7) and system type so you can choose which printer driver is compatible for you.
From here, you can install the printer driver by using the Windows Update option or the drivers might be saved to the hardware installation process in your computer, ready for install. You might need the installation CD that was provided when you first purchased your printer. If this is not available, you can always go to the printer manufacturer's website to check if the printer driver you are looking for is available for download.
I hope the above-mentioned tips helped you. Have fun troubleshooting!
