Problems May Arise If Nail Care Is Not Done Seriously
Personal nail care is something that is often overlooked by most people
. This is because nails seem really sturdy which makes people neglect them as they do not seem to be easily damaged. But if improperly cared for, nails can also cause a lot of problems.
The physical damage caused by trauma is the most common cause of a lot of nail problems. When you are not careful, trauma to your nails can cause ridges and other deformities to form. White streaks and spots may appear, as well as hemorrhaging of your nails.
Constantly wet nails will lead to the weakening of nails. When exposed to small amounts of trauma, it could lead to greater damages such as the splitting of the nail. This is very painful and will obviously lead to a lot of discomfort. It would take the nail a very long time before it heals as nails grow very slowly. This is why constantly immersing your nails in water may not be a good idea.
In addition to wet nails, the constant use of nail polish and artificial nails also promotes weak nails. This is why you will need to use these in moderation and not abuse these products just because your nails will look better. Constant tapping of your nails can also contribute to weaker nails as this is a form of mild trauma.
Very short nails can also cause problems, specifically ingrown nails. Wearing of improperly fitting shoes can cause nails to curl up which can also form ingrown nails. This nail problem is very painful as it causes your nails to dig into your skin, and makes it more susceptible to infections. This is also very foul smelling so it is a good idea to avoid this particular problem.
Speaking of infections, there are many types of infections that can occur in the nails. Fungi are a very common infection that occurs on the nails of the feet. This is especially true if you do not practice good hygiene with your feet. Moist and dark areas are the favorite places where fungi grow. Some common effects of fungi infections are inflammation and the lifting of the nails from its nail bed.
Fungi are the most common causes of nail infections, but it does not mean that they are the only causes. Bacteria and viruses can also cause painful infections of the nails that can also lead to deformities in the nails. It is best to keep nails clean and dry all of the time to prevent infections from occurring.
These are just some of the nail problems that you may encounter if you do not take nail care seriously. These problems should not be taken for granted as most of them are really painful and may cause serious deformities that will leave your nails looking ugly for a very long time. Take some time in keeping your nails properly maintained and you will surely avoid the problems mentioned above.
