Procedures For Removing Skin Tags

Skin tags can initially be extremely frightening for someone that happens upon one

. While it can be difficult to shrug it off as just an extra piece of skin, this is pretty much exactly what it is. Skin tags are, for all intents and purposes, benign tumors that find their way onto different parts of a human being's body.

Skin tags shouldn't be regarded initially as serious health problems or signs of developing disease; instead, they are the result of excessive growth of skin cells that have formed in a certain area. But they can certainly be unattractive for the person who has them. Removal of skin tags can be done in a number of ways, none of which cause undue pain or discomfort.

In terms of the ease of removal, there is no better way to remove a skin tag than to cut it off with either a pair of scissors or a fingernail clipper. You want to make sure to get as close to the healthy skin as possible without damaging it. The tag should come off relatively easily, as it is simply attached by another thin piece of skin.

Of course, it's imperative that any utensils used for removing skin tags are very carefully sterilized beforehand. When clippers are properly cleaned, you will be able to prevent any infections from developing in the open sore where the tag was removed. For some people, this type of skin tag removal can be painful; in order to reduce or eliminate pain from the removal process, it's a good idea to apply ice to the area before the procedure.

The skin tags can also be frozen off using liquid nitrogen. Warts are commonly removed using liquid nitrogen. Skin tags can be removed in the same manner. This method is typically painless, making it one of the preferred ways for people to remove skin tags when the time comes.

Liquid nitrogen should be used sparingly as it can harm the skin if it is used excessively or too frequently. One or two applications a week should be enough to remove the skin tag without creating pain or causing problems.

For people who aren't comfortable with the self-removal procedures discussed here, there are other methods, such as having them removed by a dermatologist or eliminating the blood supply to the skin tag itself. Regardless of which method you choose, you must take the appropriate caution when removing skin tags; if the area is constantly picked at or rubber it can become irritated and sore.

By whatever means you choose to get one removed, skin tags should not be looked at as dangerous bodily growths that could ultimately lead to problems down the line.
