. If thats you and you are not familiar with the term Cavendish, read on for a brief description of how it fits into the world of tobacco flavors.

First off, you might assume it is tobacco but its not. Cavendish is actually a process and a method of cutting tobacco leaf and is a type of manufacturing process. By using this special cut and processing, it brings out a natural sweet taste of tobacco and this is referred to as Virginia tobacco. It is very light in taste and quite mild. English Cavendish takes Virginia tobacco one step furtherit is steamed and then stored while being compacted down to allow it to cure and ferment for several weeks. The end result is a very dark and black tobacco.

Modern day Cavendish has a lot more flavor to it with the natural taste of tobacco nearly gone. The process, known as casting, is when you add a significant amount of additives to the tobacco. To get the flavor to come through, a liquid mixture of sugar or another kind of aroma is added to the tobacco when it is soaked. The result is a sweet and pleasing aroma. Tobacco pipe smokers have a variety of flavors to choose from, in fact the combinations are numerous and can include chocolate, coconut, run and vanilla to name a few.

As mentioned earlier, Virginia tobacco is one of the mildest of all blending tobacco and has the highest amount of natural sugar, which gives it a sweet light taste. It is also the favorite choice of tobacco for pipe smokers today and makes up well over 50% of the nations tobacco crop. Virginia tobacco can be found in virtually all blends. It is also a good burner and helps in lighting. This tobacco style is best known for its flake types like Dunhills Light Flake for example. It is medium in strength and very sweet in taste. Another blend is the Blue Caledonian, made by Danish manufacturer A&C Peterson, and is mild to medium in strength but has the nice clean taste of Virginia tobacco.
