Procrastinationa Dangerous Trend Among College Grads Today

Putting off work (procrastination) for later can be a sign of larger problems

, leading to failures. The habit of delaying work for a prolonged period of time is very common amid students today. This habit is largely on account of tiredness, fear of failure, negative feelings, and the increasing complexities of modern lifestyle. Whatever be the reasons for procrastination, the results are almost always anything ranging from mild irritation or inconvenience to total loss of control over life. If you let procrastination always get the better of you, then it might have an adverse effect on your life on the long run. Here are some of the consequences that follow procrastination:

Your grades will take a pasting:

If you go on procrastinating, then your grades will reflect it. Leaving your studies undone to be completed later means you are, at the same time, delaying your success. This is the worst effect of procrastination. Suppose you are aspiring to become an engineer or a lawyer and have been engaged in a professional course, the mere sight of those huge stout books that you will have to study may avert your concentration and thus your studies. This is perhaps because you want to do something more interesting than focus on a book that is demanding in terms of mental concentration and effort. This is the beginning of procrastination and if you yield to it, then your failure is imminent. Remember that if you have set yourself goals, then to reach them you will have to work hard and be disciplined. So, beware before procrastination actually harms you!

Burden of Overload:

If you keep procrastinating, then you will have to suffer the burden of work accumulated over a period of time. By the time you realize your increased workload, it is too late; youll be left begging for time to stand still. In order to avoid this, try and get over the boredom factor and concentrate more on your studies to get your work done in time. If you procrastinate, then your workload will never decrease. It is your work, and you have to do it. Again, get on with it before its too late!

Failure in Life:

What begins as a failure to focus in class and consequently an inability to get good grades can lead to poor career planning. You are at a greater risk of losing track of your goals and letting yourself down if you procrastinate.

Moreover, know that the income disparity between one with a mere certificate to speak of and one who also has a positive attitude and great self-discipline is enormous. Job opportunities afforded to people holding a degree from better-known colleges and universities are certainly greater, but such places of education necessarily call for greater self-discipline. The good news is that if you have great work ethic and self-motivation, a degree from an average institution will do; you will be your own ambassador and you do not necessarily need a famous institution to back you.

So if you are pursuing a course in the hope of building a dream career, think twice before procrastinating on your next assignment.
