Persons who can use multiple languages fluently are deemed to be bilingual

. The worldwide community which presently exists, being bilingual can be very beneficial for job seekers. For a country as the United States whose population includes many immigrants and companies are often seeking bilingual employees to serve non-English speaking customers. When persons bring to mind bilingual jobs the first thing that usually comes to mind is a translator or interpreter; however the requirement for bilingual persons exists in nearly every industry. Some of the jobs where being bilingual can be an asset or a requirement is: Interpreter, Translator, Customer Service Representative, Teacher, Medical Personnel, Journalist, amongst others.

Interpreter & Translator

Interpreters and translators convey information from one language to a different one. Although both jobs have many similarities but differ as a translator usually only works one way (their native language), in contrast the interpreter has to be able to work in both directions. The second language should be spoken, written, and understood to an extremely high level. This kind of job doesn't simply need words to be translated but must be able to communicate ideas and concepts. The ideal employee also needs to be understand the subject matter that is being communicated and be knowledgeable of the customs and culture of the associated languages.

Customer support Representative


Companies are usually seeking bilingual employees for this type of position as calls will come from any place in the United States or even the world. They normally are seeking persons who are able to speak English and Spanish (The second most common language next to English), other languages are also desired. The position requires persons to provide assistance to customers whether it is technical support, billing, or general account information.

Teachers

Teaching is another profession which comes in contact with persons of varying ethnicity and backgrounds. Often in schools you will find students who do not speak English and for that reason bilingual certified teachers are often preferred. A bilingual teacher tends to earn more than teachers who speak English only.

Medical Personal

No matter what language spoken, everyone will ultimately have to seek medical assistance. Having the ability to communicate what the issue is to the medical personnel. Medical facilities encourage and prefer employees who are bilingual.

Journalist

There is a high demand for journalist in non-English speaking areas; this may include traveling beyond the United States.

Web Design

Company's websites are apt to have content in more than one language to serve all its customers. The web page designers who are bilingual are more fitted to these positions
