I was unfortunate to have a very severe house fire

. It was caused by a faulty fuse box that had been fitted by the last home owner, and luckily for me the inspector employed by the mortgage company cleared the electrics as being in good working condition with no reason to doubt the functionality of the electrical system of the house. I lost everything, photos, clothes and all the nick-naks you collect during your life on birthdays and holidays alike. It was like starting all over again, I have to purchase all new furniture but not before the house is rebuilt. The fire affected the integrity of the brick work, so it has to be demolished right back to the foundations. If the water pipes are damaged below the foundation line that too, has to be dug up and started a fresh.

I am no builder, so this puts me in a bit of a problem area, as I want to ensure the house that is rebuilt is done to the highest standard and completed on time. The insurance have given me a budget for the house rebuilding and one for the fixtures and fittings, and I have to say they have been sensitive and fair throughout my ordeal. After careful consideration and many phone calls and letters, I have secured a further budget to employ a professional project manager for the rebuild.

The professional project manager will oversee the build. He or she will have certification in building techniques and be fully knowledgeable with the current building regulations. The project manager will also have their own insurance against failure to oversee the build correctly. To me it is a double insurance policy as the building contractor will also offer such insurance and a written twenty five year guarantee will be deposited with the mortgage company.

I am quite looking forward to the build but nothing will ever compensate me for what I have lost during the fire, some things are irreplaceable!

I found a very experienced project manager, whose current contract ends in one weeks time so it is perfect timing. He has agreed to my terms and conditions and after looking at the project he has added some good and valued comments, that I will send to the architect and mortgage company without delay.

My newly contracted project manager has done a couple of home rebuilds due to fire and he has put me on to some claims I can apply for, that will boost my budget when the time comes to re-furnishing the entire house. He has already earned his money and the building has not even started yet! The project manager and the builder met for the first time and as luck would have it, they not only knew each other, they have worked on some very impressive projects together in the past. They know how each other work and respect each others opinion. Let the building begin!
