Getting your brand in front of consumers in a crowded marketplace can be a real challenge. This is particular true these days when we've become so remote with communication issues. This is why the personal touch can be so effective.

Believe it or not, there was a time when the internet did not rule our lives. For those of us that have seen a few too many holiday seasons, the remoteness we have in society today is fairly shocking. Face it. We communicate like mad, but just not in person. I'll email you, chat, text and call, but we will rarely actually go to lunch.

There are a lot of implications to this new societal remoteness. You've probably heard about them over and over. Today we will discuss a new one. It is called "opportunity". In this case, the opportunity is to make a real impression just by physically meeting your target market.


Let's say I run a business making thumping stereo kits for cars. You know, the one your neighbor has that you can hear a mile off. The promotional opportunities for such a business are huge. I just need to pull together a booth for any of the car shows that cater to my potential customer pool.

So, am I going to be a hit with just the booth? Nope. What I need to do is set up a promotion. Let's say we'll give away once custom stereo system installed. That's nice, but we need to get the word out. Being a car show, we'll want to send a team of ladies out with tickets to enter and such. No, I am not being sexist. We could switch the genders at a fashion show. Regardless, the point is to get out there and get the word out.

Now comes the personal touch. A second team of company sales people and representatives should be amassed around the booth. As people come for the raffle, a lot of personal interaction should be happening. It doesn't need to be a sales pitch. You just want to form relationships, get emails and so on.

A personal touch is much more valuable than just getting something in the mail. Look for opportunities were you can incorporate it into your promotional campaigns and you will be glad you did.
