Proper Golf Swing Lessons

As you practice your swing, focus on not only how you grip the golf club

, but your aim and posture - these are the three elements that will set you on course to having a proper golf swing.

The first step in attaining a proper golf swing is evaluating whether or not you require golf swing lessons. If you do then consider engaging the services of a trained and experienced golf instructor. The instructor will work with you to identify the proper golf swing that is best suited for you. If you are a member of a golf club, then you have an advantage since many golf clubs have a resident instructor who is available to provide basic lessons to members. That said, you do not have to confine yourself to the resident instructor; talk to friends and family to obtain recommendations on a good instructor. You can also go to professional golfing association websites to obtain contacts for instructors in your area.

Once you have settled on an instructor, you are now ready for the first of your golf swing lessons. Usually, when you are starting out with an instructor for the first time, do not pay for a long term engagement. Pay for a few lessons first to see whether the instructor is all that he or she is touted to be. Once you gain confidence on their ability to help you master a proper golf swing should you engage them for a longer time.

Your lessons should start with the very basic which is learning how to hold the golf club properly. You need to hold it securely with the face of the club being delivered square at the point of impact in order to swing with control. This will also prevent your muscles from tensing up which is the main problem for many when trying to execute a proper golf swing. If you vary your grip, even slightly, it will alter the direction of your shot.

The next step is to know how to strike the ball. Stand with your feet apart (anywhere between hip and shoulder width) and make sure your weight is well balanced on both feet. Bend your knees slightly so that your arms remain naturally relaxed as you hold the golf club in position. Make sure your entire body is properly aligned for the strike. You should make sure that your feet, hips, knees and shoulders are all parallel to the target line. Remain centered relative to the ball throughout your swing. A proper golf swing starts with a turn around the spine and ends with a turn towards the target; do not swing with a slide to one side then the other.
