In a report it is found that 7% of the women and 65 of the men are abused by their current or former spouses

. This is the percentage so men and women hitchhas experienced violence in some form or the other.

Amid all kinds of violences, spousal violence was studied to be more severe for women than it is for men. In fact, the percentage of women facing such violence is twice that of man.

Women also fear for their lives more in compared to men.

Causes and forms of Domestic Violence


Depression, Drugs, alcohol and marital breakup are the deadly and common reasons for violence happening in the houses.

There are killers who do not accept the breakage of the marriage or observe it as their failure hence they land up killing not only the wife but also the children.

Such men though are reported of being depressed but, the matter of fact is that there ego gets hurt when they are rejected by their wives. They take it as an insult and hence when they see no chance of the person returning back to them, they reach the extreme stage of violence.

The measures to control domestic violence

Such an issue which is more of social in nature can be controlled through following measures:

Public Awareness: should be increased to save the lives of women and children. Women should be taught and educated about their rights. They should be given the courage by the family, society and Government as well to ensure that she fights back the ill rather than tolerating it any further. This is important for saving her own life and also that of her children.

Improved Access: the accessibility of counsellors, social workers, psychologists should be enhanced in all the regions of the country so that the victim can take their immediate help. Also, the expert can make the victim understand the situation and take necessary steps to save their lives.

Social Responsibility: Those associated with the victim bear a moral responsibility to save a victim from taking the same pain again and again. Also, if they neighbors find anyone being victimized in front of their eyes, they should report the matter to the police, before it is too late.

Launching Campaigns: Campaigns may be organised by social activists and Government to reach out to the victims and make them confident enough.

Organising Rehabilitation program: Such programs will help the victims to restart their lives after they have any such trauma in their lives.


Strict punishment for the miscreants: The killers or abusers should never be spared at any cost. They should be punished as strictly as possible so that other miscreants learn a lesson and do not repeat the same error.

Summary

Domestic Violence is though not an alarming issue in the provinces of Canada, yet the issue is not that mild that it would need no attention at all. Measures have to be taken right in the beginning so that it does not get deeply rooted in the society.
