Pros And Cons Of Laptops Vs. Desktop Computers

A 2009 HT survey reveals that over 57% of American homes have access to high-speed Internet access

. If this many Americans pay for Internet, imagine how many have computers (or multiple computers in one home). The biggest question when shopping for a new computer is the type of product youre looking for. Do you want a traditional desktop computer or do you want the functionality and convenience of a laptop?

More and more Americans are becoming dependent on the convenience of laptop computers. Once youve reaped the rewards of a laptop, its pretty hard to revert back to a traditional desktop computer.

If youre on the fence about which type of computer to purchase, you may want to read the pros and cons of laptops vs. desktops below:

Disadvantages of Laptops Compared to Traditional PCs:

Technically speaking, the number of disadvantages of laptops outweighs the number of advantages for the product. Many people find the small size of the screen and the smaller keyboards somewhat frustrating to use. The small screen also makes this product less-than-desirable for individuals looking to play DVDs or advanced games. The only other significant disadvantage of these products is the fact that theyre extremely expensive compared to their non-portable counterpart. Some laptops can cost twice as much as a desktop computer, depending on the size and brand of the item you choose.

Advantages of Laptops vs. Traditional PCs:

As we said before, there arent as many advantages of laptops compared to disadvantages but the few pros of these products make them a very popular product. Despite the disadvantages listed above, millions of consumers still choose to purchase laptops because of their convenience and portability. Not only are laptops smaller, more compact and easier to transport but theyre also easier to use because they dont need to be plugged in like traditional desktops (except when recharging the battery).

Choosing a laptop vs. a desktop computer can be a challenging decision. Research the benefits and disadvantages of each and compare them to your needs (or your familys needs) before making your purchase. In the end, youll be happy you took the extra bit of time to make sure you made the right choice.
