Pros And Cons Of Photochromic Lenses

Photochromic lenses are mostly used by people who are mainly exposed to the UV rays of the sun

. The color of the lenses changes from light to dark depending upon its exposure to the sun. Previously one could choose only among glass lenses but today one can even choose from plastic lenses. There are various names given to these Photochromic lenses such as Transitions, Reactolite, Reactions and even known as Graduations.

But in totality these lenses are known as photo chromic lenses. But the name Transition is a brand name of the photochromic lenses. The photochromic lenses from Transition are the most advanced lenses but there are many lenses available in the markets which are also very advanced in technology. The photochromic lenses are made for the protection of your eyes from the UV rays of the sun and practically clear. These lenses can produce a tint effect depending upon the amount of UV rays falling on them.

The tint effect is more on a bright sunny day as the UV rays present is more and similarly on a dull day these photochromic lenses can change its color to a pale tint as the UV rays present is not much. Again when you come back to your house and you are inside then these lenses again become clear. The basic idea behind these photochromic lenses are that they should provide protection against the harmful UV rays of the sun and also from the changing effect of the sunlight. But you should remember that while you are outside the car these lenses tend to tint more whereas when you are inside the car the tinted effect is not much as the windscreen of the car does provide UV protection.

The two most popular types of photochromic lenses are Transition lenses and Reactolite lenses. Transition lenses are available in various forms such as in Standard Plastic, Poly Carbonate, 1.6 and 1.67 lenses. These lenses are made from very advanced technology and are the very fast to react to the UV rays of the sun. They take not more than 30 seconds to react and it is within this short span of time that they even get clear. Reactolite is another brand name of glass photochromic lenses. These lenses take a longer time than the transition lenses to react and are much heavier than those lenses. But the plus point of these lenses is that they are much more effective when someone is driving a car. But most of the time it is seen that transition lenses are much widely used as the comfort provided by these lenses is immense.
