Pros And Cons Of Tubal Ligation Surgery
Many people think that invitro fertilization is the only way to conceive
, once a tubal ligation surgery has been done. However, this is not the case as there is a surgical way to reverse ligation which has very good success rates. There may be many reasons for a woman to opt for this surgery, which is essentially either the tying up or the severing of the fallopian tubes in a woman. A woman may have the desired number of children and may not wish for any more; or she may be in a shaky marriage or an abusive relationship and does not wish to bring children into an already difficult situation. Sometimes, there may also be a medical reason for having the ligation done. For instance, if the medical condition of a woman requires the uterine wall to be removed the doctor may advise ligation afterwards. This is because there is no chance of a successful pregnancy after the uterine wall has been removed.
Although it is true that some times it may be necessary to resort to invitro fertilization in order to conceive once the
tubal ligation surgery has been performed, it is not always so. However, there are both pros and cons to this surgery. On one hand, it is the only definite method to prevent pregnancy as all other birth control methods are not 100% guaranteed. Moreover, this is a simple surgery and usually does not require a hospital stay.
The negative side to this surgery is that the reversal procedure may not always be successful and one may have to resort to IVF in order to conceive again. Moreover, some women may suffer from side-effects like depression, cramps, and heavier periods et al after this surgery. This is the reason that it is important to think properly before deciding to have this surgery done.
Of course, you can opt for
in vitro fertilization in order to conceive after tubal ligation surgery; but it is always better to try ligation reversal surgery first. This surgery is performed by making a small incision in the lower abdominal area. The tubes are then reconnected or untied, as the case may be.
