Protect Your Family with Dish Network Locks & Limits

Easily manage your family's TV viewing by enabling this feature - at no additional cost and get control over what your children are watching!

Lock By Ratings

* Based on Motion Picture Association of America ratings


* Option to select additional protection based on expanded ratings such as violence, language, nudity and sexual content

Lock By Channel

* Prevent anyone from viewing selected channels unless they enter the correct password

* Lock any channel, including movie channels, Pay-Per-View and local channel

* To set channel locks, press the MENU button on your remote, select LOCKS then choose the locks appropriate for your family. Once you've made your selection, lock the system to set a password, which will ensure you have control over the programming you want and don't want.

Activating the Adult Guard (Parental System Locks) to lock out the adult programming/movies.

The Adult Guard feature gives you the capability to hide adult channels from your Electronic Program Guide. This prevents children in the household from viewing the programming or accessing the program information.

You can restrict your receiver from viewing programming that contains:

* Certain ratings (PG 13, R, NC-17, etc.)

* Certain expanded ratings (violence, nudity, etc.)

* Certain channels (HBO, ESPN, etc.)

Once the locks feature is activated, the system will require a 4-digit PIN number (that you create) to access any program that contains the ratings that you have locked out.

To activate the Adult Guard (Parental System Locks) to lock out the adult programming/movies follow these steps:

* Step 1: Select "LOCKS" from your main menu.

* Step 2: Select "HIDE ADULT".

* Step 3: Select "YES".

* Step 4: Select "LOCK SYSTEM" and enter 4-digit pass code.

* Step 5: Go to channels 489-499 in the on-screen guide to confirm the Adult channels have been hidden.

To De-Activate Adult Guard follow these steps:

* Step 1: Enter the pass code if prompted.

* Step 2: Select "UNLOCK SYSTEM" and "SHOW ADULT" through the

"LOCKS" menu.

How to prevent unauthorized orders (channels and games) on Dish Home Interactive TV on channel 100:

In order to prevent unauthorized access to Dish Home Interactive TV on channel 100, the channel locks and system locks options must be activated.

To set up the channel locks, press the menu button on your remote. Select the Locks option and then the Channel Locks option. Highlight and check Channel 100, then select the Save option.

Once you have set up the channel lock, you will need to lock the system as well. To lock the system, select Lock System. You will be prompted to create a 4-digit password (if one is not already created). You will then need to re-enter the password for confirmation. You may then exit out of the menu system by pressing the Cancel button on your remote, until you are back at programming.

You will need the password to access Dish Home Interactive TV on channel 100 once the locks have been set. If you forget your password, you will need to contact Dish Network's Customer Service Center to have the previous password cleared. Please note that once the old password has been cleared all locks will need to be reset.

Parental Control Abbreviations & Definitions

G General Audience. All ages admitted. This signifies that the film rated contains nothing most parents will consider offensive for even their youngest children to see or hear. Nudity, sex scenes and scenes of drug use are absent; violence is minimal; snippets of dialogue may go beyond polite conversation but do not go beyond common everyday expressions. All additional ratings are locked out: V, L, N and SC.

PG Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children. This signifies that the film rated may contain some material parents might not like to expose to their young children material that will clearly need to be examined or inquired about before children are allowed to view the film. Explicit sex scenes and scenes of drug use are absent; nudity, if present, is seen only briefly, horror and violence do not exceed moderate levels. V and L are allowed but N and SC are still locked out.

PG 13 Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. This signifies that the film rated may be inappropriate for preteens. Parents should be especially careful about letting their younger children view the film. Rough or persistent violence is absent; sexuallyoriented nudity is generally absent; some scenes of drug use may be seen; use of harsher sexually derived words may be heard. V, L and N are open, but SC is still locked out.


R Restricted. Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent Or Adult Guardian. In the opinion of the Rating Board, this film definitely contains some adult material. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about this film before they allow their children to accompany them. An Rrated film may include hard language, violence, nudity within sensual scenes, drug abuse or other elements, or a combination of some of the above, so that parents are counseled, in advance, to take this advisory rating very seriously. Parents must find out more about an Rrated movie before they allow their teenagers to view it.

Dish Network also uses additional ratings:

V For Violence, L For Language, N For Nudity, SC For Sexual Content, NR/AO For Not Rated and Adult Oriented.
