Recent advances in satellite Internet and WiFi have made it possible to share almost anything at any time. You can post pictures of your latest vacation for all of your friends and acquaintances to see, send text messages to the world about your day, or forward a link to a funny video you saw on YouTube to all of your coworkers.

Quiet, awkward coworkers can have entire online lives that no one in the office knows about scores of dedicated readers of their cooking blog, or hundreds of followers of their text message updates.
But some get themselves into trouble online. Badmouthing a boss or one's company on a personal blog is a fast ticket to a pink slip. An underage college student announcing how wasted she was the night before might not impress a recruiting officer.
So what are some ways to make sure you're not oversharing? Following these simple tips will help you manage your online presence.
Check your privacy settings.
Most social networking websites allow you to determine who can see what information. You may be surprised to find out that complete strangers have access to all of your information and photos. You can often create lists of different friends such as "family," "colleagues," "close friends," etc. so that certain groups can have more access than others. This comes in handy if you want to share recent vacation photos with your brother but not your coworkers, for example.
Never post your full address.
This is just inviting problems. Even if you restrict who can access the information, it's very easy for hackers to break into other people's accounts. And what's the purpose of posting this information anyway?
Don't announce when you're going out of town.
There have been recent reports of people's houses being targeted for burglaries based on the owners announcing their vacation plans.
Don't accept all friend requests.
Part of the excitement of social networking and the constant availability of satellite Internet is being able to connect with people from both the past and present. Don't talk about your company or anyone you work with.
This seems like a no-brainer, but the line for what's appropriate is surprisingly thin.
