Not long ago, a 32 year-old man and his teenage brothers broke into the house of a family living in California. The two parents of that household grew marijuana, which the three brothers broke in looking for. If the homeowners had had a home alarm system installed in their house, the crime would have ended as an attempted breaking and entering. An alarm would have sounded loudly and the three young criminals would have been scared and would have fled the home. The authorities would have been notified and they would have arrived at the house to protect the homeowners and their children. Yet because the homeowners did not have any security measures in place, the criminals were able to get inside the house without alerting anyone, and that is when things turned tragic.

The young father in the home awoke to hearing three men inside his home, and he realized they posed a threat to his wife and children. He confronted the three criminals and was shot in the process, but because he was still determined to protect his family, he continued fighting. He was able to wrestle a gun away from one of the teenagers, at which point he shot and fatally wounded one of them. Somehow in all of the mess, the other teenager was wounded by gunfire, and the middle-aged intruder managed to escape. Although stories like these sound rare and unusual, they can happen to anyone. As the economy has gotten worse and people feel like their economic options are limited, they're more and more willing to break-into homes to steal things in order to make a profit. Because everyone is vulnerable to these kinds of attacks, everyone needs to make sure they take good home security precautions to protect themselves.

The easiest, most affordable, and most effective way that this family could have protected their home would have been to install a proper home alarm system. If everyone would take the time to invest in their safety today, there would be fewer tragic crimes tomorrow, and every day after that.
