Protecting Your Home Whilst Carrying Out Building Work
When it comes to having building work done in one area of the home
, like an extension for example, it can mean the whole house is covered in dust and dirt for weeks on end and the actual time to clean up after the work can take as long as it took to have the work carried out in the first place.
This does not have to be the case with the products now available on the market. I've listed the two main types of dust protection and the benefits of using them.
Protective Screens
If you really want to keep dust out of the rest of your home whilst carrying out home improvements, then using polythene sheeting and clamps to hold it in place is the best way. This type of screening if correctly installed is perfect for dust containment and dust control. You'll also find that the better products on the market offer a temporary door solution if access is required from within the home. For longer projects that may have security issues, polythene sheeting alone may not be the best way to secure your home from unwanted visitors, but used in conjunction with a more permanent screen or lockable door then it is definitely the right choice.
By using protective screens you are not only protecting your home and soft furnishings you are also protecting your health, especially if you or your family are asthmatic or have a dust allergy.
Floor Protection
Floor protection is another area that is essential when carrying out building work in the home. When you think of floor protection you may only think of it with decorating in mind. It's not only decorating that you should be thinking of, as carpets can easily get ruined by dirt and dust from building work and wooden floors are often damaged form falling debris. Depending on the work being carried out using either a protection film or plastic sheeting is advisable. If you think about the cost of the work and the cost to replace your carpet then it could end up costing you more to replace your carpets or flooring than it did to do the home improvement.
I'm always looking for new forms of dust and floor protection materials, so if I come across any new materials or products that I think are of use, you can be sure I'll let you know.
