Protein Powder Is A Body Building Supplement
Supplements for body building are also called dietary supplements and are used by those athletes who are interested in building up their bodies
. These supplements can be used instead of meals to gain weight or to promote weight loss so that the body performs at its best athletically. These supplements can be vitamins, proteins, amino acids, glutamine, essential fatty acids, testosterone boosters etc. These can be sold either singly or in the form of stacks and the frequency of their ingestion depends on and is different for body builders and other athletes.
The most common body building supplement is protein powder. This powder can be mixed with milk, water, or even juice and is taken immediately before or after exercising, or as a substitute for a meal. Although it is generally thought that sportspersons and bodybuilders need extra protein, the exact amount is depends largely on the duration and the type of exercise, the body type, gender and the age of the individual.Whey protein is taken immediately after a workout, but casein protein powder is taken just before going to bed. The theory supporting this is that body builders require larger amounts of protein to support the maximum growth of their bodies. At present, there is no view that an individual can actually benefit from protein powder and amino acid supplements that are available as bars, bites, mixed with oats, gels and protein powders, which are available in many flavors.
Some health experts are critical about these protein powders mentioning that they are quite unnecessary for most people who take them since they can get enough from a normal diet with sufficient calories. But some people disagree and say those protein powders and sports supplements are superior to whole foods where muscle building is the main objective. This is especially so for athletes who do not have the time to look at preparing whole foods for their consumption and seems to be a practical solution to keep up their energy levels and at the same time their muscles well toned to boost their performance.
On the other hand, even those individuals who diet and want to lose weight or strict vegetarians or even those who are training heavily can get their dose of amino acids from the protein powders or other sports supplements. Traditionally, nutrition experts say that a body is able to metabolize only 5 to 9 grams of protein per hour. Any excessive intake of these powders or supplements can lead to kidney problem, osteoporosis that occurs due to calcium leaching and even diarrhea defeating the very purpose of taking them. Also, it may lead to extra weight gain because the body cannot process protein very quickly and so will store it as fat. Women can also gain substantially by taking protein powder for any of the above purposes but powder meant for women will have other minerals e.g. iron mixed with it.
