Provide That Cast-off Settee The Leather Repairs It Requires

Do you have that wonderful leather or expensive looking vinyl sofa or chair

? Maybe it is getting a little worn and even torn in some places? It is time to start thinking about what you are going to do? Throw it out? Keep it as is? Try to fix it yourself, or get it fixed professionally?

I have been thinking for a long time about what to do with this chair I absolutely love.

You see I inherited this wonderful leather chair, but it is twenty years old, cracked in places, and yes? There is even a tear here and there. My husband keeps telling me to put it in one of my famous garage sales, or give it away, but every time I look at that old chair, I just cannot seem to do anything. I love it so much! It reminds me so much of my grandmother! This simple chair brings back so many story telling memories.

This means that I only have two options here. I can send it to a professional to get it repaired, or I can try to fix it myself. Both methods have their own distinct advantages, but also its consequences, maybe that is why the old chair has not had any change in the last two years.

Here are my Do it Yourself repair options.

The do-it-yourself repair kit? I finally decided to do something, so I went to look for information on the cheapest way to do leather and vinyl repair. I found Leather and vinyl repair kits online along with the instructions, and I thought WOW! This is the way to go. Now the instructions say that the leather or vinyl repair kits should only be used, if the tear is tiny and not really visible.

I turned to the old chair. Did I really believe those tears were tiny and barely visible? They might be, if I had cataracts, or invited only my aged blind friends over. I still needed this option to be the right one, so I continued going over the instructions. The repair patch may have a problem bonding with old leather. Was twenty year old leather really that old? Maybe not for my 80 year old aunt, I think they would say that was almost new. But can I get away with saying that? Wow, and what if it does not bond together?

Further instructions go on to tell me that I need to use grain paper and sand the repaired portion to look like the old leather. Is this supposed to work all over the chair? I think it will surely look like a patchwork quilt! Kind of artsy but not really what I want!

The Professional Vinyl and Leather Repair? Nope! My only option is to get this old chair repaired professionally, and when I called to find out if it could be done and how much it would cost, I was fairly surprised at the quote. It really was not that expensive! In fact, I would say the quote I got was a bargain. My chair ended up looking gorgeous.

So I suggest, if you have a vinyl or leather sofa and need to have it repaired, you should get it professionally repaired. don't just keep that old look, and do not decide that it now has an antique finish. That was my way out. In the end my chair ended up being professionally fixed and looks great. It is now ready for another 20 years!
