Ps3 Jailbreak - The Ps3 Modchip Clones Just Don't Do The Trick.

The PS Jailbreak took the PS3 Modchip community by storm around the end of August

, and has since sold out on virtually every store online that carries it. But as with many product, Chinese knock off / clone makes were quick on the draw to come out with their own version, but as usual - corners have been cut.

For those of you not familiar with the PS Jailbreak, it is the worlds very first Playstation 3 / PS3 Modchip. Allowing you to run homebrew game and applications on your Playstation 3 console, as well as, letting you backup your Playstation 3 games to your internal Hard drive or any USB 2.0 external hard drive and loading them from there.

Why the great excitement over this PS3 Jailbreak? Simply put, because it is remarkably easy to install and use. You don't have to do much more than just plug in the PS Jailbreak USB Dongle and away you go. Once plugged in, your Playstation 3 is opened up, so to speak, to enable the running of Homebrew games and apps with ease.

But much like with any major product, the Chinese clone makers were fast as work creating their own versions of this PS3 modchip. But sadly, as has been pointed out by users - by cutting a whole lot of corners. Top on the list of corner cutting is the chip that they use for their own modchip.

The original PS Jailbreak uses a reprogrammable (read: upgradeable) chip that should an upgrade for the PS Jailbreak be required - it's as easy as flashing the new firmware onto the original device. Chinese clone makers have however opted to use a chip that costs just pennies each. Sadly, these cheap chips are not able to have any updating, so they can not be upgraded in any way at all.

As a result of this, many PS3 owners have taken somewhat of a stand against the clones. Not because they're clones, but because of the outright lies about the ability to update and upgrade the chips in the future, should a new firmware for the PS Jailbreak be available.

My advice to anyone looking for the ultimate PS3 modchip is to only buy the original PS Jailbreak, as it is, at this point anyway, the most update proof version of the modchip for the ps3.
