Ps3 Troubleshooting: Basic Steps

If your PS3 is acting up, there are some basic steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem and fix your unit at home

. Sending out a PS3 for repairs can be a costly expenditure, particularly if it is no longer under warranty, but fortunately many PS3 problems can be repaired easily at home. If you are experiencing difficulties with your PS3, here are some basic steps to troubleshoot the problem.

First, check your cables and make sure everything is tight and in the right port. A surprising number of PS3 problems are caused by a lose cable, and often a cable that looks secure, will prove to be just slightly lose enough to cause a problem when checked.

Next, check your systems settings. Having the wrong settings is a common problem if you are having display or audio problems, so make sure it is not set for the wrong television type (such as HDTV if you are using a standard television).

If you PS3 game console has frozen up, you will not be able to check the settings and you should instead try doing a game system restart. To do this, hold the power button down for about ten seconds. The PS3 will then shut itself down on its own, and then you should restart the unit and see if it functions normally.

Freezing and blinking light issues, especially red flashing lights, is often caused by overheating so also check and see if your PS3 feels hot to the touch. If so, turn the unit off immediately and allow to cool down before using it again. Make sure in the future it is well ventilated, to prevent it from overheating again.

These are the most basic steps to take to troubleshoot your PS3, but if they do not work you can move onto more advanced at home PS3 repair techniques.
