Use of metro is considered to be the best mode of commuting from one place to other. In fact the Madrid's subway system is one of the world's biggest and also the most complete one. The new lines that have been created provide access suburb and every direction in the capital. Madrid is divided into zones and for each zone there a different prices. However, as a tourist you're only need to travel in the first zone. This transportation system can be a bit costlier than bus service but saves a considerable amount of time.
