Putting Your Home in Order: Simultaneously De-clutter, Organize and Clean

Don't expect to put your home in order in a single day

. It took much longer than that for the disorganization to build up. The best way to de-clutter, organize and clean your home once and for all is to devote a few hours every day to this task. Before you start to un-clutter your home, get three boxes; one to hold items that you want to give away, a second for objects that you will toss out and a third box for the things that need to be re-arranged in their proper place. Make sure to label each box clearly. Placing a garbage bag next to the box of stuff to be thrown out will make things easier.

The most efficient clutter organization system is to tackle a single room at a time. If you are methodical, you can de-clutter, organize and clean each room in one go. Begin at the door and work in one direction, and don't bypass anything. The most time-consuming part when you try to conquer clutter is deciding which objects to keep, which to donate and which to just toss out. Ask yourself a few key questions if you are unsure about an item. The first question to consider is your feelings about the object. Are you attached to it because it has a special sentimental meaning for you? Does the item stir up feelings of guilt or grief? You really should not keep objects only because getting rid of them makes you feel guilty, for instance. To help you clean the clutter in any given room, also consider questions like whether the object is functioning properly (or at all) or whether you have a similar, perhaps newer, one of the same. Getting rid of broken items or duplicates is essential to un-clutter your home. When you have filled the box of items to give away, take it directly to a donation center. You could also sell these items at your local thrift shop or on websites like eBay. The prospects of getting some extra cash when you clean the clutter could be an incentive to overcome any clutter hoarding instincts you may have!

Most people don't realize that so many things are out of place in their homes until they start to reduce clutter and see the box of items to be re-arranged' fill up! The secret to successfully de-clutter and organize a room is to stop what you are doing as soon as you have filled this box. It is essential to put every item in the box where it belongs right away. Hiding the box in a closet, a basement or in an attic so you can deal with it later will defeat all your clutter organization plans. Ten to one, the next time you see the box will be when you de-clutter closets or the basement etc.

Un-clutter each room you tackle in an orderly fashion, making sure not to bypass a single piece of furniture. Remember, the plan is to de-clutter, organize and clean the room, all at once. So, if there's a dresser or a desk in the room, be sure to sort through the things in the drawers and re-arrange them properly. If a desk holds bills or financial papers, take the time to look through them and discard those that are over a year old. Important documents that you need to keep for longer than a year should be arranged in a special spot, elsewhere in your home.

Getting an organized home is not as hard as you may believe. The thing to remember when you un-clutter your home is to persevere; spend a few hours each day methodically reducing clutter, one room at a time. Remember to take a rag or dust cloth into each room you tackle so you can clean as you organize. Once you have de-cluttered, organized and cleaned a room, you'll have the pleasure of arranging your favorite decorative objects in it so you can finally enjoy them.
