Pvc Coating On The Wire - The Difference It Makes

Polyvinyl Chloride, commonly known as PVC, is an organic polymer that may contain partial traces of extrinsic synthetic substances

. PVC is extensively used for coating of wires. There are various advantages of using PVC as a coating material. The physical and chemical properties of PVC make it an ideal coating.

Fire Retardant:

Polyvinyl Chloride exhibits excellent fire retarding properties due to the presence of chlorine molecules in its structure. In case of fire, PVC undergoes thermal cracking that leads to the formation of hydrogen chloride gas. The released hydrogen chloride gas forms a layer around the PVC surface and prevents it from getting in contact with the atmospheric oxygen. This process stops the combustion reaction and eventually the fire extinguishes.

Moreover, PVC releases less combustion heat as compared to other plastics thus preventing the fire from spreading to uncontrollable limits. Burning PVC releases certain carbon compound that forms a thermal barrier around the coating and prevents any further damage due to excessive heat.

Moisture Resistant:

PVC is resistant to moisture and water. Due to its resistance to moisture, the conducting material of wire does not get affected due to moisture. The moisture resistant property also ensures the durability of the wire.

Durable:

PVC coated wire can withstand extreme weathering. PVC coating can endure heat of up to 50 degree Celsius. PVC coating are also resistant to ultraviolet rays. Corrosion resistance is yet another attribute of coating the wires from PVC.

Creep Property:

Plastic substances exhibit creep behavior. Due to creep property, plastic substances get deformed at room temperatures when an external force is applied for long course of time. PVC is the plastic that shows little creep and thus it is widely preferred for various industrial applications apart from coating of wires.

Excellent Insulation:

In case of electrical appliances, safety is paramount. PVC has a high dielectric constant and thus serves as an excellent insulating covering.

Chemical Resistance:

PVC exhibits excellent chemical resistance along with a wide range of practical mechanical properties. PVC is resistant to the action of alkalis and some acids that make it the best choice for wire coatings.

Despite of several beneficial characteristics, PVC is a low cost plastic. Thus the use of PVC coated wires has its economic advantages too. Different varieties of such wires can be availed from a number of PVC Flexible Wires Suppliers out there in the market.
