From the daily complaints received by Fiber Inspection Department of the Bureau of
Quality Supervision and the result of sampling inspection, the quality of apparel products is mainly concentrated on the following areas:
First of all, it is color fading. The fading problems of apparel products were mainly caused by inappropriate selection of dyestuff and unfinished surface dying during the dying process.
Secondly, it is fabric fuzzing and pilling. It can blame to the jerry work of manufacturers. For example, adding a large number of short fiber and reduce the fabric density during producing a sweater would cause large area pilling of the clothes in a short term.
Lastly, it is poor strengthen. Generally, consumers complained about the holes and cracks damage on the clothes which caused by the improper weaving process and after-treatment.
Misunderstandings Interpretation
The expert pointed out that tag misleading cases occurred frequently, which can be classified into two aspects: one is intentionally mislabel of component identification, such as the conventional acrylic products marked as "anti pilling fiber", "fever fiber", "far infrared fiber", the conventional polyester stretch cashmere product standard "Cashmere", "bamboo carbon fiber", "Alpaca" etc. this can be regarded as cheating. The other aspect is misleading of washing method which would affect the second consuming and resulting in unnecessary quality problems.
Experts also mentioned that in addition to the obvious quality problems, some invisible problems of apparel products cannot be ignored. Released in 2003, national mandatory standard GB18401-2003 National Textile Basic Safety Standards, involving 4 indicators in 5 categories (formaldehyde, pH, smell, decomposable aromatic amine dyes) are invisible, these safety problems have plagued consumers when they bought garment.
General consumers only concerned with the clothing styles, fabrics, price and workmanship, simply do not know the hidden killer. Also, the no requirement of market indirectly leads the enterprises and shopping malls to turn a blind eye to environmental protection and safety clothing problem. Some small business take advantages of these invisible characteristics, such as PH value, formaldehyde, and biodegradable aromatic amines, cheating on the workshop and materials. The experts revealed that these unqualified indicators would cause skin or respiratory disease, and even cancers.

Experts warned that in addition to concern about the style and appearance of the clothes in the purchase, consumers should carefully check whether the specification was identified. Standardized
clothes tags shall contain the manufacturer's name and address, product name, product number, type and size, composition and content of the raw material, the precautions of washing method, use and storage conditions, product standards number, product quality levels, safety category product quality inspection certification and other information.
Furthermore, experts believe that in the purchase of clothing for infants and children, parents should pay more attention to some quality problems, such as whether structural design is reasonable or not.
Unreasonable design is the highest quality risks of children's clothing. For example, elastic rope on childrens clothing may hit the childs face or eyes when stretched. Besides, tensile force of the
clothing accessories on childrens clothing need meet the requirements. There are always various
small particles such as buttons, rivets, and fluff balls on childrens clothes. If these decorative accessories do not meet the sewing requirements, it may fall off when kids are wearing them. Kids may swallow or bite the falling parts due to curiosity which easily causes suffocate.
