Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk was known as Paule Monique Izzi before she married the former King of Cambodia in April 1952. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam on 18th of June 1936. Her mother was from Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, while her father was of French and Italian descent. Following a fine education Queen Monique, as she is sometimes referred, served as the President of the Cambodian Red Cross in late 1960s.

She entered the royal house of Norodom following her marriage with the then King Norodom Sihanouk. She had two children and her eldest son His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni is the present King of Cambodia. Queen Mother has continued to provide major contributions towards charity and welfare of her country people, especially the poor and the needy.
