Questioning My Way To Success

Targets, goals, dreams, desires, wish lists, must haves, I wants, are all meant to do one thing; motivate us to take action. A mind that is focusing on a target is a brain that keeps itself busy finding a way to make what you want, happen. Like any desired success result, it has to be either important enough to motivate you through the challenges (see my article 'Putting Success On Your To Do' List) or we need to have a strategy to keep the mind focused on creating the outcomes we prefer, otherwise it becomes another good idea on the good idea scrap heap

Clarity around what we want is not necessary to initially ensure a daily focused mind, defining our purpose is what will hold our success attention. One of the most important aspects of knowing what we want and one we tend to forget, is knowing what we want is often a test and measure process. Define, refine, define, refine, define and refine and keep doing itevery day. We often give up or keep searching for an answer that we have had in the unrefined raw form all along. Here's the thing, instead of getting caught up in answers, try focusing instead on a better question.

Questions arouse curiosity, looking for answers often cause a sense of disillusionment if they can't be found quickly. Curiosity is about exploration, evaluation and then defining it to refine it. If you are looking for an answer to a dilemma that you may not be that clear about, you risk a muddy frustrating sort of answer. If instead we look at what we learn as data for the next question then we take the learn from' and 'test' approach and then how long it takes, starts to loose its sense of urgency, it takes what it takes.

So how do we utilize this concept as a success oriented daily habit? My goal as a Coach is not only about helping you to define your target though that is important but more importantly creating instead a confidence that you can sustain a focus that will produce results. Most of my clients know what they want they even know what to do to get there, but that's not what gets in the way of their doing it.

What we come to understand, what gets in our way is our mind thinking in terms of what it doesn't want. The powerhouse of success tactics is a focused mind, focused on what we want. Focusing on what we want, will overcome otherwise insurmountable obstacles, it fuels our daily energy tank rather than drains it.

We know why it is a good idea to focus on what we want but how do we do this? How do we get our mind focusing on targets of value? How do we have our minds acting as a guided missile never giving up till its hit its target? How do we make sure we are not like some cheap firecracker, going off with a big bang, zipping around for a short erratic lit up moment, then fizzling out before we have gone nowhere?

Go and buy yourself somevisitor cards whichare packets of blank business sized cards you can buy at your local newsagent. They provide a cheap way to create priceless value, a dream focused, goal targeted mindset. Every morning write yourself a relevant target directed question for the day, a how can I? What can I do? Who can help me?

Give your mind something to focus on and like a guided missile watch as it searches to find an answer. Take the card with you and keep reminding your mind what it needs to focus on. Either at the end of the day or early the next morning reflect on what you learnt and formulate a more focused question for the day. I tend to write on one side what I learnt the day before and then write my question for the day on the other side so I know what I am building on.

A target by its very nature is something we want to hit, have, see ourselves connect with, the bullseye is the exact point we want to hit, a focused mind moving towards a target is like a guided missile, and the well defined question is the perfect launching pad for the bullseye focus.

If you give it a go please email me and let me know your experience, I would love to hear

from you.
