Quick Tips For Improving Your Putting Game
1. Practice at Home. You may not have your own putting green installed at home
, but you probably have a carpeted floor. One quick tip is to cut out a piece of paper in the shape of a hole and place this on your floor. Stand several feet away and practice your distance judgment. Your floor probably does not have and slopes to it, but using this drill in the convenience of your home will allow you to get a feel for your backswing and follow through to get the golf ball to roll the correct distance. If you have a putting trainer, this is a great opportunity to put it to use.
2. Use the Practice Green. The use of the practice putting green at your local course can be an amazing, but often overlooked, asset to your game. Too many golfers spend their time only on the driving range and dont take advantage of the practice green. There are many drills such as placing balls all around a hole at a particular distance that can be utilized on the practice green. The most important thing to remember, whatever drills you choose, is to just practice. Youll get a feel for the grass on the course greens as well as utilizing slopes and angles
3. Line Up Your Putt. Before you even address the ball for a putt, stand behind the ball and line it up with the hole. Look at the slope of the green and determine whether you need to aim left or right to get a proper roll towards the hole. You can choose a point to aim at, taking into account speed as well as break. Picking a point and keeping your eye on the target also helps slow your mind and stay focused.
4. Align Your Feet Properly. This quick tip has a lot to do with common sense. Whatever direction you plan to putt the ball, your feet should be parallel with this line. So, even if you are putting away from the hole to compensate for a slope, your feet will not be on line with the actual hole. With your feet aligned your stroke will also be inline. You want to remember the putting stroke starts with your base and if your base is out of alignment your stroke will be as well.
