If you are asking yourself the question, will I gain weight when I stop smoking? The answer to your question, I'm afraid to tell you is most likely Yes. You will undoubtedly gain weight when you quit smoking.
There is no getting around it, more then 80% of people gain weight when they quit smoking. It is just a side effect of quitting that happens to almost everyone when you finally decide the time is right to stop smoking.
As side effects go, gaining weight for most people is not a death sentence. Where as if you insist on continuing to smoke cigarettes you are pretty much guaranteed some terrible disease and even death if you don't stop smoking.
So knowing all the risks to your health you take everyday you keep smoking, I would think weight gain is one side effect you can live with. No matter how terrifying the thought of gaining weight is to all of us,
it is a side effect that you can manage.Unlike the side effects of continuing smoking cigarettes that you have no control over once they finally invade your body. When emphysema, or lung cancer, and heart disease attacks our bodies, there is no diet to get rid of them. You have no say in the matter and oxygen tanks are not a cure. Believe me I know first hand how terrible emphysema and heart disease are.
The truth of the matter is, you can control the weight gain if you choose too.
You can watch what you eat and the amount of food you are eating. You can even choose to eat healthy low calorie food.
As someone who did finally quit smoking after 37 years, I really think that in the beginning stages of your smoking cessation, you should just focus on your smoking habit. Your goal right now is to quit smoking and it should be the only goal you should be concentrating on. To quit smoking is stressful enough without worrying about if your gaining weight.
When you have finally conquered you smoking habit, which you will, then if you want to address other needs you think you need to work on then go for it. Just don't go getting yourself all stressed out about gaining weight.
Once you have become a successful ex smoker, you will find that any other habits or conditions you may not like about yourself, can be easily resolved.
Nicotine is a ferocious habit that is one of the toughest to break, so once you have quit smoking something like a diet to lose weight will be nothing for you to be able to do.
