Rackmount Lcd Devices Are Ideal For Space Constrained And Messy Environments

Replacing large, energy consuming monitors with lightweight Rackmount LCD devices are ideal for situations where space is limited or dust problematic

. Technology teams who support manufacturing environments struggle to keep computer systems free of dust and residue that is part of the fallout while assembling or packaging products. A recent consultation with the plant manager at a wood veneer company provided an opportunity to show off how a rack mountable LCD monitor system would save them money.

A wood veneer company turns a hundred foot hardwood tree into veneer products. The trees are harvested, cut into sections, loaded onto a semi-trailer and shipped to the veneer manufacturing plant. Here the bark is removed from the tree and sold off to landscaping companies. The hardwood log is then rotated over a sharp blade that peels away the wood leaving behind a thin sheet that becomes the veneer wood.

As you can imagine, this is a very dusty environment. Also, space is a premium and is taken up by these huge logs and the equipment used in the process. The plant manager wanted to eliminate all their large, heavy monitors and replace with something smaller. An industrial grade server cabinet with 1U Rackmount LCD and the 1U keyboard were the perfect solutions for this environment.

Lightweight liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors are fitted into a sturdy steel shelving unit along with a 1U keyboard. The 1U is a standard terminology for measuring and fitting components into a server rack. 1U is the equivalent of 1.75 inches meaning the 1U rack mountable LCD and 1U rackmount keyboard take up 1.75 inches of rack space. This means that a large, heavy 17 or 22-inch CRT style monitor is replaced by an LCD device that only occupies 1.75 inches when folded flat into the steel tray.

Clean and Space Saving Solution - The Rackmount LCD, keyboard, tracking device and computers are all housed inside a server cabinet. Cabinets have doors that lock as well as fans to circulate the air within the cabinet. All of this makes a tidy, compact and secure area for housing the system that monitors the entire process. Another bonus is that a single 1U Rack LCD and keyboard can connect and manage several servers within the same rack. Another device called a KVM switch makes this possible.

Rack mount LCD monitors are compatible with most popular PC and server systems such as IBM, HP, Dell, and SUN Microsystems. These displays are much more budget-friendly as their power requirements are lower than the older monitors. Since fewer monitors are necessary, the facility manager also benefits from less energy dollars consumed by the computer infrastructure.
