Radiology Jobs - An Essential Part of Healthcare

Anyone working in a Radiology job is called a Radiologist or a Radiology Technician. And according to recent reports, there is a worldwide shortage of qualified people for these positions. To help overcome this problem, hospitals and health care centers are raising the salaries when advertising for qualified and talented people. In America for example, job opportunities and earnings for radiologists and radiology technicians are different among all the states, but apparently the Southern states pay more, while those on the Western side pay the least.

The difference between a Radiologist and a Radiologist Technician is quite significant. The Radiologist has studied longer and qualified with a Bachelor's degree, while the Radiologist Technician has reached Associate level. People interested in this kind of job can choose to which level they would prefer to study; obviously the higher the qualification, the higher the salary. And sometimes it is best to finish all studying in one stretch, as it is very difficult to start learning books again later on if life. The first level of qualification would be a Certificate, then an Associate's Degree, then a Bachelor's Degree, and lastly a Master's degree which earns the title of Doctor!

To get to an Associate Degree would take two years, while a Bachelor's degree can take as long as four or five years, depending on the level of commitment. After the Bachelor's degree is obtained, it's another two or three years to complete a Master's degree.

What exactly does a Radiology Technician do? Radiology involves the use of X-Ray equipment to determine whether the patient has any broken bones or any diseases. The Technician also needs to be able to analyze the X-Ray so she or he knows exactly what they doing, although their analysis is not used for the X-Ray report. Safety issues form a very important part of the job of a Radiology Technician as well as a Radiologist, as a patient could suffer severe damage internally or externally if rules are not followed. Everyone has seen the giant equipment in the X-Ray rooms! In most American states it is a requirement that an examination is passed before a license to practice is obtained.

As with other medical fields, there are different branches one can choose to follow in Radiology, including working with people having Mammograms, or MRI scans and CT scans or simply an X-Ray to check if an arm is broken. The field of Radiology jobs is very competitive sand salaries depend on experience, level of education and where the job is - which State and what branch of Radiology.

Always remember that a Radiologist is an essential part of the chain in the hospital environment. The work they do provides the means for the doctor to make a diagnosis and to implement a plan of treatment for the patient. With qualification comes a certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). A Radiologist job allows a choice of preferred working environment - a Maternity Clinic, a Trauma center, an Orthopedic Centre or working with a doctor in his rooms.
