By using radiographic imaging machines, Radiology Technician and Technologist produce pictures that show results of disease or injuries in the suffered by a patient. As with most careers, you can pursue different aspects of this field. For instance, a technician could perform a Mammogram, MRI, or CT Scan, to name a few. Training as a Radiography Tech can provide experience in using x-ray equipment to prepare you for working in a hospital or other health care institution. Critical procedures are also part of education and are important to guarantee safety. Passing an examination is required to obtain a license in most states.
As you gain experience and knowledge, your salary will increase along with choices of employment. Health care related jobs are high in demand and growing in number, including the career of a Radiology Technician. The salary range varies depending on location, experience and education but is competitive and provides a good income.
An x-ray technician is invaluable to doctors and hospitals as these tests help to provide the basis for a diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Once you have completed the program, you will be eligible to be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART).
As a qualified technician, you may choose to work in a hospital, helping doctors and nurses from all areas, such as ER, Maternity, Orthopedics, etc. Or, being a part of a smaller clinic or doctor's practice may appeal to you. Either way, you will work directly with patients, and with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals.
