Rahul Gandhi earns praise for his views on Ayodhya
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi,s comment on Ayodhya issue has earned him
much accolade from different quarters ranging from politician to academician to common man and above all the youth with whom he shared his feelings during his one-day whirlwind tour of Assam.
As the Apex Court was busy hearing the petition by retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chand Tripathi on Thursday, and finally came up with a verdict on Ayodhya title suit deferring its judgement by at least five days, Rahul Gandhi fielded a tricky question on Ayodhya issue from one of the students at IIT Guwahati and bowled over everyone by his statesman like answer.
During his interaction with students of IIT Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi replied to a question on Ayodhya issue saying that the issue has its relevance in certain parts of Indian society, but added that there were other issues of fundamental importance as well.
Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday clearly said that there are more important fundamental issues like education and infrastructure than Ayodhya, saying "my personal view is that there are many fundamental issues that are much more important like infrastructure, the type of education we are providing to our youngsters and the type of technology we use than that of Ayodhya." His response was to a question on whether he thinks it is worthwhile at this time to spend so much time and energy over deciding whether a temple or mosque should be there at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
He, however, said that in a democracy there are people for whom such decisions are important and they have a perspective and view on this. "But, in a democracy, one has to listen to people's views and that separates us from a dictatorship. I very much value the idea that we are a democracy," he added.
Earlier, on his tour to Dibrugarh University where he had held a closed-door interactive session with students and later he met a handful of protesting supporters of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU). Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took everyone by surprise when he stopped his motorcade and jumped out of his vehicle to talk to students who staged a protest against his visit outside the campus. "Protest is a part of good democracy" he was heard telling them before embarking on his tour to next destination of IIT Guwahti.
Indeed, the statesman like attributes that Rahul Gandhi evinces whenever the circumstances demands, puts him in the line of great leaders that India has witnessed ever, and reminisces the image of his father Rajiv Gandhi, who was undoubtedly the most beloved leader of the masses.
