While some tasks are simple (such as patrolling and inspecting rail lines) other jobs are more in-depth and need every member of the track maintainer team to accomplish the work. When these workers may not have the public visibility of a train conductor or locomotive engineer who has knowledge of Awareness training, the work they do is no less significant. The work is carried out in all types of weather all year long and every member of the team has an important part to play in the work for long term Rail safety.

One wrong step at the wrong time could mean the loss of an arm or leg - or even death. Track maintainers earn an annual wage depending on their level of experience and the company they work for. Signal maintainers over out inspections and repairs to all the communication equipment such as lights and signals that make the Rail safety operation of every railway line feasible. Being part of the repair and maintenance teams that keep the trains moving and everybody safe this is an important position which pays an every hour wage.

It's important to keep in mind that because of the nature of the transportation industry, not every occupation has a set schedule of hours that are worked. Some days may need workers to be on the train for only a few hours while longer routes will need workers to be on the train much longer - even overnight for Rail safety. As with all other occupations, seniority and union decisions dictate who gets the better shifts. It also only makes sense that workers aboard passenger trains will have better work surroundings than those working freight trains. Passenger trains usually have more reliable schedules of work as they follow set routes between points.

Creosote represents a serious health risk to railroaders because they continue to be exposed to creosote products as a condition of their employment. A specialized claim under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA) may exist for workers of common carriers, employees of railroads, which still use creosote-treated lumber for railway spikes. A worker can create a creosote lawsuit if injured by working conditions, hazards or negligence on the railroad's part, according to details of FELA.
