The Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium is a spectacular cricketing grounds located in the North Central Province of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka close to the town of Dambulla. The stadium is one of the newer cricketing venues in the island that was opened up in the year 2000. With a capacity to seat 16,800 people, the stadium has played host to an exciting array of international cricket matches that have entertained thousands of people both within the island and overseas. The stadium covers approximately 60 acres of land which stands leased from the famous Rangiri Dambulla Temple, exuding an aura of majesty and splendour.

Having only taken 167 days for construction, the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium was inaugurated in March 2000 with the playing of a high profile international cricket match between Sri Lanka and England. Consequently, cricket matches were not played at the stadium for a short period of time following certain lease complications. However, this matter was shortly resolved resulting in a continuous stream of matches being played from the year 2003 onwards to date. The highest one day international match score at this Stadium was attained by Sri Lanka when they scored 282/4 against India in 2004. The lowest score at the stadium to-date was scored by England when they only achieved 88/10 against Sri Lanka in 2003.

The Stadium's location in Dambulla, which is part of the dry zone of Sri Lanka, has allowed the stadium the privilege to be able to host matches all year round due to good weather conditions.
