Ranvir shorey was born on 18th august 1972 in jeddah saudi arabia in a punjabi family
. He did his early schooling from dayanand model sr. Sec school at jalandhar. Ranvir started acting at the age of 35. Ranvir first appeared on the silver screen in shashilal nair ek chhotisi love story (2002).
The film starred manisha koirala opposite ranvir. The film got bombed at the boxoffice but gave ranvir a push in bollywood for sure. After the failure of ek chhotisi love story (2002), ranvir was next seen in amit saxena jism (2003). He played a supporting character of vishal in the film, with bipasha basu and john abraham in the lead roles.
The film was a hit at the box office. In his next film, freaky chakra (2003), ranvir was a part of the lead cast along with deepti naval and sachin khedekar. Freaky chakra (2003) was a story of a woman stuck in a rigorous routine, until a young man arrives as a paying guest to transform her life.
Ranvir character of a writer was of a semi narrative type. He also played a brief role in shashaka ghosh waisa bhi hota hai part ii (2003), as a part of a trio in a coffee shop. In 2004, ranvir was seen in a brief role in farhan akhtar film, lakshya (2004), starring hrithik roshan amitabh bachchan and priety zinta in lead roles.
The film was a semi hit. Humdum (2005) directed by kushan nandi and the film (2005) directed by junaid memon were the only films in which ranvir starred in the year 2005. 2006 proved to be a great year for ranvir as he starred in total 5 films.
Rajat kapoor mixed doubles (2006) starred ranvir opposite konkona sen sharma in lead. The film was a comedy drama, revolving around the misunderstandings between married couples. Though being a parallel cinema venture, mixed doubles (2006) did moderate business at the box office.
Ranvir was next part of the starcast of naseeruddin shah directorial project yun hota toh jya hota: what if? (2006). He was accompanied by many parallel cinema actors including irrfan khan, paresh rawal, konkona sen sharma, ratna pathak and immanuddin shah.
The film was critically acclaimed and performed averagely at the box office. Pyaar ke side effects (206) was a romantic comedy starring rahul bose and mallika sherawat in lead roles. Ranvir played the role of a comedian in this film.
Khosla ka ghosla (2006) was a comedy drama film revolving around dreams of a common man. This was dibakar banerjee directorial debut, in which ranvir starred as balawant khosla, the eldest son in the middle class khosla family.
The other actors in the cast included veteran bollywood actor anupam kher, boman irani, parvin dabas and tara sharma. Even though made in a small budget, khosla ka ghosla (2006) got good response at box office and also received national film award for best feature film in hindi for 2006.
Ranvir was also seen in a small appearance as daksh in ram gopal verma shiva (2006). In 2009, ranvir was seen in many movies, but not in a significant role, except for chandni chowk to china (2009) (cc2c). In cc2c, he played the role of chopstick, a half chinese fortuneteller.
The film starred akshay kumar and deepika padukone in lead roles. The other films in which ranvir acted in 2009 include saurabh shukla i am 24 (2009), quick gunn murugun (2009), thanks maa (2009), do knot disturb (2009), fatso! (2009) and raat gayi baat gayi (2009).
Ranvir 2010 the film emotional attyachar (2010) was a thriller filled with black humor. Ranvir will be next seen in anjane dost segment of the film mumbai cutting which is already on the floors. This film is going to be a collective of small segments directed by different directors, together telling the story of mumbai city life.
Ranvir will also be seen playing a lead role in aap ke liye hum, also starring jaya bachchan, manisha koirala, raveena tandon and ayesha takia azmi.Ranvir is a close friend of bollywood actor and director rajat kapoor and bollywood actor vinay pathak.
Ranvir shorey earlier dated bollywood actress turned director pooja bhatt, but he finally got married to his long time girlfriend bollywood actress konkona sen sharma on 3rd september 2010.
