RC car hobbies are great for a number of reasons

. For one they are a great way for families to spend time together. There are RC cars, as well as many other vehicles, including boats, planes, and much much more. The other thing that is cool about these hobbies is that they are available just about anywhere, from hobby shops, some mass marketing retailers, and of course abundantly online.

Even with all the different RC car hobbies out there, there are still basically three different types of RC cars, and other vehicles, electric, gas, and Nitro. Each has their advantages and disadvantages so it is important to learn a little about each of them in order to pick the right one for you and your family. The first one you should know about is the electric RC variety. These vehicles are usually powered by a 9.6 volt battery pack, which can be inserted directly into the vehicle. You can take them out when they run out of power, and charge them up from a wall unit.

Some of the advantages of these electric RC car hobbies is that they run off off electric motors, so there are not as many moving parts. They run a little slower that the other two power sources, which is ideal for kids and newbies. Depending on the type of RC cars, they run for longer periods of time than gas or Nitro. In many cases, they are pretty much ready to go out of the box, right after the battery pack has been fully charged.

There are some disadvantages of electric vehicles though. In many cases, these aren't consider true RC car hobbies, because they don't have the power that gas and Nitro RC cars have. In many cases, the battery packs don't last very long, that is they can't deal with being drained and recharged a lot, sometimes only fifteen to twenty charges before they need to be replaced. They are usually smaller than other types of RC vehicles.

Gas and Nitro powered RC car hobbies are for the serious enthusiast. Usually these RC cars and trucks come in kits, with real working gas motors. They has small tanks that are filled with a fuel mixture, and depending on the scale, can go up to forty miles per hour or more, on the straight way. More and more people are getting into these because of the thrills and the speed that are associated with gas and Nitro.

Just as with electric, there are also a some disadvantages of RC car hobbies that are fuel powered. One of them is that the mixtures can be messy do deal with. Just like real life motors, RC cars that are gas powered give off smoke and pollution. Because they are fast, and don't have big gas tanks, they only last five to ten minutes before you have to refuel. Since they are fast, they are tricky to control. In many cases, these cars are expensive to fix or repair, with units costing any where from a hundred dollars, to well over a thousand.

RC car hobbies are getting more and more popular every year. If you are interested in RC cars, and are just starting out, a good idea would be to get yourself a nice decent electric car first. They are less expensive, and easier for beginners to handle, so you can learn how to steer and get the feel of these kinds of cars.
