There isn't a whole lot of gear that is required for the P90x home workout program. You'll need dumbbells or resistance bands for the weight training part of the program, and a pull-up bar for the variety of pull-ups and chin-ups you'll be doing throughout the 90 days. I have been using the Beachbody P90x pull-up bar for a few months now.

I am currently going through my second complete round (I have started and restarted several times) of P90x. Throughout this whole time I have been using this bar around two times a week and have gotten to put it to the test.

There are three factors that I feel are important for a home chin-up/pull-up bar. First, it should be durable because I don't think anyone wants to have it break on them halfway through the exercise. Second, it should be easy to install. And lastly, it should be functional and do a good job at what it needs to do.

How does it fair in terms of durability? I was 206 lbs at my heaviest, and it never bent, buckled, or broke. It shows no signs of stress or bending. It is made of heavy gauge steel that can hold up to 300 lbs. Beachbody had their bar tested by a product testing company to see how durable it was. Their bar was able to perform 195,000 reps with a weight of 400 lbs. A competitors bar was tested as well and lasted for one-quarter of the reps the Beachbody bar was able to handle.

How does it install? Installation is really, really simple to be honest. It mounts in your doorway without hardware. As an option, there is a hook that can be installed above the doorway so that it can be mounted with a bit more security. However, the hook isn't needed. It is intelligently designed so that no tools are needed to mount it, and that it can be easily removed when you are done. Before I do a P90x workout that utilizes it, I put it in the doorway, and when I'm done I remove it. It is just a matter of hooking it over the door frame.

How functional is it? Most pull-up bars are literally just a straight bar. This one has several grip positions so that you can do a variety of different pull-ups. In total there are 12 different places to put your hands, so it is extremely functional.

What about the negative points? I found that when I first bought it I wasn't able to use it when I first did P90x. The house I was living in at the time had decorative door trim that made it impossible to mount it. However, in the new place I'm living at now, it fits just fine. It fits in 24-32 inch wide doorways.
