Robbie Findley scored in the 88th minute and lifted Real Salt Lake to a 1-0 victory

The win gave RSL a cushion as the team gears up to play the second game in Columbus on Nov. 5. RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando said the Crew wanted to come into their house and get a 0-0 draw. The goalkeeper continued to say the goal was great, and RSL wanted to get a couple more but Columbus was a tough team to break down. Will Johnson got the play in motion after he threw the ball to Yura Movsisyan on the left flank.

Movsisyan dribbled the ball in the corner before he sent a hard cross across the goalmouth toward the right post. A charging Findley shot the ball between Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer and the post. In last week's regular season matchup, Findley scored two times in the first half to lead his team to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. RSL coach Jason Kreis credited Movsisyan for the win against Columbus. He came off the bench during the Rapids match and provided a major spark late in the second half. Kreis stated that Movsisyan has played consistently for his club. Although Columbus registered seven shots they ended up being the third straight team to be held scoreless at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Crew struggled on offense in the second half and failed to record a shot on goal.

Columbus coach Robert Warzycha made a peculiar decision to sit out reigning league MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Schelotto, who had 12 goals during the regular season, did not play at all. Warzycha explained his move by saying he was attempting to jumpstart a slumping Columbus offense that has only scored one goal in its final four regular season games. The coach's move did not help the Crew secure a win on the road. He told the press, "You always go into the games to score goals. You cannot tell the players not to score goals. But sometimes you cannot create chances and that's what happened today." RSL viewed Warzycha's decision to bench Schelotto as a sign that the Crew was more interested with forcing a draw and taking the series back to Ohio rather than trying to win a postseason match.

RSL expects to see a different Columbus team next week - a team that will play Schelotto. Findley has no illusions that the Crew will just hand over the series; he said his club was up 1-0, "but it's not over." RSL went 9-1-5 at home during the regular season. Findley and his team know that they have another tough 90-minute game to play. He said Columbus is going to throw everything at his club. The soccer player added that RSL must play sharp once they arrive in Ohio if they want to continue their postseason run and have any chance at winning an MLS Cup title.
