Why in the world would you want to purchase genuine Ugg boots when there are so many cut-rate copies on the market? You've heard the maxim: You only get what you pay for!

Genuine Ugg boots are made with a tanned outer surface and double faced sheepskin with fleece on the inside of the boot; the top of the boot has fleece on the outside. Rubber is the material in the sole of the boot, although frequently they are made of synthetic materials. If you look closely, you'll see stitching is on the outside of the boot; this is an Ugg feature. These days, Uggs are available in many colors: black, chestnut, blue, pink, just to name a few. Uggs can be had in lace-up and slip-on variations; their height can range from just above the ankle to above the knee.

What really drove these boots in popularity is the many Hollywood starlets that were seen wearing them ; better than a million advertisements! The mere fact these stars wear Uggs is an unsaid green light of the product.

There is a single benefit to the imitations: the price is much cheaper. However, buyer beware... the quality may not be there. Real Ugg boots are easily spottable as they are double-faced and will not have the two skins glued together. A lot of the fakes use cowhide suede as the outer boot with lower grade sheepskin glued inside, usually in pieces. Cowhide doesn't breathe as well as sheepskin especially when slathered in glue and piece application of sheepskin allow for pieces to come off on the inside, and they often do should glue weaken.

The genuine Ugg sheepskins are extra thick, which is highly desireable for a boot. Lower grade sheepskins will be thinner and the boot will not be able to hold it's shape, and wear out much faster.

Note that most of the fakes will use as a rule synthetic materials. However, many synthetic materials these days look and feel just like real sheepskin! Wool and suede can be mimicked very sucessfully with synthetics these days. Synthetic boots will, however, be terribly uncomfortable as they will not breathe like natural sheepskin will, leaving the owner with sweaty feet.

Also note that most fake Uggs will have irregular shoe sizing, so a size 9 womens may or may not be a real size 9 womens! Beware of off-sizes with the fake Uggs.
