Reasons Why The Dog Is Vomiting
Dog owners would occasionally witness the pet throwing up
. The retching sound being made by a vomiting dog can make an owner vault as often times the pet would choose to upchuck the contents of the stomach on the carpet. What is even more disconcerting is the fact that most of the time there will be two mounds to clean up. Why can't the dog do it in one heap?
Considering the dietary indiscretion of our four legged friends, it would not be surprising to see them throwing up. Dog owners know that dogs are voracious eaters that would not pass up the chance to consume even inedible objects. Naturally, the dog's system will expulse objects that are not supposed to be in the dog's stomach. Apparently, dogs know that they only need to throw up to remove the foreign objects from their stomach.
The dog's habit of gulping down food will result to vomiting if the dry food that fills the stomach absorbs moisture and expands. A dog may have chronic or acute bouts of vomiting. A dog may have sudden vomiting bouts but this condition is pretty ordinary in dogs and dog owners need not be concerned especially if the dog is its usual energetic self.
Normally, sudden bout of vomiting is not an indication that the dog has a serious illness. Sudden vomiting usually results from the dog's insatiable eating habit so that when the excess content or the foreign body in the stomach is thrown up, the dog would act as if nothing happened. Acute vomiting though can be life threatening. Dogs have a curious personality. This curiosity may led to poisoning or a blockage in the intestinal tract. Prompt medical attention must be given to the vomiting dog.
A dog that appears to be healthy would throw up every now and then because of an undiagnosed medical condition. Dogs with chronic bouts of vomiting can have intestinal parasite infestation, parvovirus or distemper. Allergies, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease are other causes of chronic vomiting.
Medical attention is mandatory for dogs with chronic vomiting as poor digestion can hamper the absorption of nutrients resulting not only to low energy level but also to poor physical appearance. Although occasional vomiting is normal in dogs, pet owners have to be observant - to know if the dog needs medical attention as throwing up may not be due to overeating but to life threatening concern.
