Recognizing The Benefits Of Diesel-fueled Vehicles

With gasoline prices as high and volatile as ever

, and carbon emissions threatening to heat our planet up, we have becoming increasingly cautious when deciding which type of car to buy. But outside the make, model, color, and all that, there is another option you may not have fully considered: what type of engine, or rather, what type of fuel you want to power your vehicle? Progress in diesel technology has made buying a diesel-fueled vehicle a viable option. Here are some of the benefits of this type of engine you might not have previously considered.

First and foremost, I'm sure you are wondering one thing: fuel economy. That coveted MPG marker has become the deciding factor for many folks when deciding between one car or another. And if that's your concern as well, than there is no hiding that diesel engines are much more fuel efficient than your average gasoline engine. With an MPG rating usually 20% - 30% higher, you can start seeing savings at the gas pump instantly (especially since in some areas, diesel fuel is already cheaper than gasoline). Also, many newer diesel engines are capable of funning on new diesel flex-fuels that generally bring the price of diesel way down.

Of course, the typical complaint about diesel engines is that they are noisy-and we don't need to drive by any semi-trucks to know that. But diesel engines on conventional vehicles have improved dramatically to the point that they are only barely louder than a regular engine. Suddenly, driving one around town and through neighborhoods isn't as embarrassing as it might have once been.

One of the understated benefits of a diesel-fueled vehicle is the added torque power at lower RPMs. Diesel engines have a much higher performance hauling trailers, boats, and other vehicles. This can be helpful not only on large pick-up trucks but even in smaller passenger cars as well. If you live in an area with lots of hills and mountains, you may have seen your car struggle and put-put its way up steep climbs even while your foot is completely depressing the gas pedal. A diesel engine will make these types of climbs or any type of hauling you need done much easier and fuel-efficient.

As you review all the different car options available, make sure to think through the benefits of using a diesel-fueled engine in your next car, cutting down costs as the pump and powering your engine to handle any load you might be carrying.
