What are the symptoms of stress you are most likely to experience as a woman
? Simply put, stress, is a tense and uncomfortable emotional state which is produced by activities characterized by frustration, tension or strain.
Stress is experienced by everyone, however, women tend to become particularly tense and nervous when confronting conflict-ridden circumstances. These circumstances generate additional emotional reactions like performance anxiety and depression.
There are several common forms of stimuli that trigger stress in women:
1.Work related conflicts
2.Relationship issues
3.Financial conflicts
4.Loneliness or isolation
5.Illness
6.Death of a loved one
7.Coping with a dysfunctional mate
Stress-induced symptoms in women, include, tension headaches occurring daily, with varying degrees of intensity, frequency and duration. Backaches or abdominal cramps also occur with some frequency.
Another difficult symptom for women is sleep deprivation; stress-afflicted women are often not able to sleep at night. Sometimes, this occurs several nights in a row which can produce additional headaches and agitation.
Women may also experience irregular monthly cycles, skin lesions, hypertension and stress-induced joint pain. Additional symptoms of stress in women, include diarrhea, constriction in the chest, heart palpitations and deficient libido.
Sometimes, these stress produces more serious symptoms, including obsessive thoughts of suicide, the onset of smoking or the self-abusive consumption of alcohol or prescription or illegal drugs. Other manifestations, including abnormalities of the skin, herpes outbreaks and weight fluctuations are also commonplace due to female stress.
Irritability is a very common symptom of female stress. It is frequently followed by other emotional manifestations such as, rage, mood fluctuations and sustained crying.
Is it possible that there could be any other symptoms? Well, how about ruminative worrying and impaired capacity for concentration and decision making?
These symptoms facilitate further negative reactions like extreme suspicion, self-doubt and loss of temper. Inordinate feelings of helplessness can also afflict women who are stressed-out.
Be vigilant for symptoms of stress. Only when you are aware of its symptoms, can you find ways to effectively manage them.
Several techniques for effective stress management follow:
1. Dialogue with members of your support system, including relatives and friends. By sharing your emotions with members of your support system, you have a reduced sense of isolation and a lesser chance of a worsening of your symptoms.
2. Stressful situations require your activation of a sense of optimism. Typically, when stressed, people will mentally catastrophisize and think the worst will happen. Return realistic perspective to your thinking and eliminate your exaggeration of threat as soon as possible.
3. Use exercise, meditation, self-hypnosis and yoga for effective stress management. Learn relaxation and deep breathing exercises and use them at home even while working.
4. To eliminate symptoms of stress, it helps to interrupt your regular routine. Pursuing a hobby which distracts your attention can work well, as can socializing with your family and friends.
If these do not work, then getting professional help is the next order of business. Also, if your symptoms are life-threatening or dangerous in any way, you should consult a professional!
This usually involves:
1. Individual stress management counseling. The purpose is to provide training in stress reduction techniques such as, relaxation and autogenic training, guided imagery and self-hypnosis and to understand yourself and your situation clearer to facilitate more effective problem-solving.
Counseling provides feedback, support and guidance from a professional experienced in treating stress. This type of therapy can be received from both private practitioners and non-profit community agencies.
2. Self-therapy kits (STKs), articles and books. If going to counseling seems initially like too big a step, but you want more structured help, reading articles and books, attending seminars and using self-therapy kits (STKs) can be very helpful. STKs are self-help tool kits that tutor you, every step of the way, on how to eliminate your stress-oriented symptoms.
While books and articles use only one format in conveying their message, STKs teach stress-reduction skills using fascinating multimedia methods, including: CDs, DVDs, MP3s, e-books, workbooks, audios, videos etc. They can help you eliminate stress effectively and quickly.
