The Longridge Heritage Trail is only a couple of miles and encompasses the market town of Longridge and its surrounding landscapes. This historic village became a significant centre with quarries, mills and there are businesses here that have been there for over a hundred years.

If you are more interested in culinary delights, the Lancashire Creamy Cheese Walking route is a great way to discover this county's well-known cheeses, many of which are still family run businesses. There are, very conveniently, seven renown cheese makers of the county all within ten miles of each other who still employ the traditional local methods and use only locally sourced milk. And these are all situated in the wonderful conservation area of the Forest of Bowland which has been classified as an area of outstanding beauty. So walking in this area can satisfy all your senses, and even make sure you are well fuelled along the way.

For the more literary walkers among you, there is also a Tolkien trail and a walk in the landscape that inspired the Bronte sisters. Tolkien apparently stayed at Stonyhurst College and in the Ribble Valley and one can feel how this mystical terrain may have made its way into the fantastical other worlds of the great author. The 2 mile walk that has associations with the Bronte sisters starts in the village of Trawden, passes through old farmhouses and follows a former packhorse trail down to the village of Wycoller.
