Recovery And Process Of Chin Implant Surgery

Chin implant surgery has never been as popular as it is today

. So many people in the US, and international, are choosing to have this type of plastic surgery performed on them lately. And for most, the process is typically pretty similar with a few minor variations. Let's talk about what that process is like, and what those variations might be based on the choices that the surgeons and individuals might choose to make.

Chin augmentations are performed either for reconstructive reasons or just aesthetic enhancements. Chin implant surgery is an outpatient process that takes about an hour. You can have it done in a doctor's office, hospital, or plastic surgery center. It is common for either local or general aesthetic to be used, this is more or less up to the surgeon. Often, a chin implant may be performed in conjunction with other operations, which will of course extend the time that the procedure will take.

There are generally only two possible points of entry where a surgeon would cut for a chin implant procedure - one is inside your mouth on your lower lip, the other is the skin underneath your chin. The implant that has then been specifically chosen for the patient's needs will be slipped into the hole that was created by one of these two incisions. The surgeon will stitch up his incisions after the procedure - after 7-10 days, you can come back in to have them removed.

The recovery process is pretty easy as long as there are no complication issues. To make sure everything went according to plan, you will need to come back for a follow up appointment about a week later after the swelling has gone down. After the procedure, you will have some general soreness in your lower face, as well as some swelling and bruising. It's fairly common for a doctor to prescribe some light painkillers for recovery, but this is at their discretion.

It's best to plan ahead and have a friend or family member with you while you are having your operation done. This way, you have someone to drive you home, and it doesn't hurt to have someone around for a few days afterward as well. You may not actually need them, but it's always helpful to have some assistance available just in case.

So that is it, that is all that it takes to have a chin implant done. It is incredible that the medical field has come so far that a procedure like this can be completed in an office in just an hour.
