Recovery Through Use Of A Knee Scooter

A knee scooter is an innovative device designed for people with injuries to the lower

parts of the leg, as well as other parts of the body that can make walking unsupported difficult. Its designed so you are basically pushing with the healthy leg while resting your injured one up on an adjustable foam pad. With the use of a knee scooter, people have the opportunity to stay mobile without putting the injured area at risk.

Designs vary with knee scooters. Some are built by the manufacturers for easy turning with the use of three tires, one in the rear and two in the front that are operated by a steering wheel. However, the basic design of a knee scooter is four pivoting tires that require a balance shift in order to turn. Different designs are for different uses and the appropriate ones for certain injuries should be decided by a doctor or trained physiotherapist.

Knee scooters can also be used by people with other injuries that dont necessarily even directly affect the legs. People with healing wounds from surgery may use a knee scooter in order to cut down on unnecessary bouncing or jerking from regular movement. They can also be used for people having problems with controlling their balance, such as an inner ear infection.

The movement involved with a knee scooter is very simple and requires little training and supervision to use properly. The foam pad is there to support the side of the body that is injured. There are two handle bars on the front, similar to a bicycle, for you to place your hands. These handle bars are also for you to support your upper body when moving. And of course, you use the leg on the healthy side of your body to push the knee scooter.

Knee scooters do have a few disadvantages. You should not use a knee scooter if it is in fact your knee that is injured. To use it properly, you have to put pressure on the injured leg. This could cause further damage to an already injured part. There are also precautions that have to be taken into account as to where and how often you are going to be using it. Knee scooters wont perform as well on uneven ground. Its recommended that they be used inside on floors and to have an alternate method of moving up and down stairs.

Being injured can be hard and stressful. It can even make the person affected feel embarrassed or almost useless due to the limitations one may encounter. At least with a knee scooter, it will assist in day to day chores that would otherwise be very difficult to accomplish with other walking aids. Before an injured person uses a knee scooter, they should be taught how to properly use it in order to avoid any preventable mistakes. If used in a proper manner, a knee scooter can make the headaches of healing more tolerable and help in a speedy recovery.
