Dynamic disk is intended for dynamic storage purposes. These disks include dynamic volumes. When any of these volumes are deleted by mistake then, by using Disk management snap-in, you can recover the data unless the volume is formatted.

If the disk is formatted to NTFS, such deleted volumes can be recovered by restoring backup boot sector in Windows. If you have formatted it after deleting the dynamic volume, you should go for Data Recovery applications to recover them.

NTFS volumes keep a backup copy of the boot sectors. As early as you cancel a dynamic volume, Disk Management deletes the volume's primary boot sector, located at sector 0 of the volume. It then erases the analogous volume entry from its confidential area database, though the computer backup boot sector and the actual information stays intact. Therefore, you'll mend the erased boot sector from its backup and hence the cancelled NTFS dynamical volume. Simply because NTFS doesn't keep backup boot sector, you could not retrieve the volume if erased.

It's best to first recreate a volume of precisely same size as of erased one. Be certain you don't format the volume.

Use Dskprobe.exe that permits you to repair backup boot sector. In NTFS, it is located towards the end of volume, unlike in FAT32 it is place at sector-6 of volume.
